Pensacola International Airport is one of five major airports in North Florida, serving more than three million passengers annually. To expand aircraft operations and enhance economic resilience in Northwest Florida, the City of Pensacola is embarking on Element 2 of Project Titan. This design-build project will increase the size and capacity of existing maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities and operations located in the northwest quadrant of the airport. It is also part of the development of a four-hangar MRO campus projected to create over 1,700 jobs and provide individuals with opportunities for career advancement and financial growth. The MRO campus is also projected to generate 60 additional aircraft operations by 2029.
Our team is helping the airport further its commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth in the region by providing design criteria professional and program management services. These services include developing and maintaining the project schedule and budget along with collecting detailed site information. In addition, we are working with the MRO tenant to assess design needs and update cost estimates so they fit within the project’s budget. We are also creating a detailed design-criteria package, assisting with the procurement of the design-build team, and managing design and construction. This includes performing reviews and conducting inspections.
The second phase of Project Titan encompasses the construction of:
- A 130,000 square-foot hangar and a 75,000 square-foot hangar to support MRO operations
- Automobile access roadways, including intersection improvements, and landside parking areas used for supporting facility operations
- Aircraft parking aprons required for accessing and supporting the MRO hangars, general airport overflow and overnight commercial aircraft parking
- An aircraft wash-rack apron to support proposed MRO functions
- A 75-foot-wide aircraft taxilane connecting the new aprons to the airfield
- Stormwater management systems
- A new perimeter fence, gates and utilities
Element 1 of Project Titan was completed in October 2022 and featured the development of a cutting-edge, 177,000 square-foot MRO facility to accommodate large aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A300. In July 2023, it received the Commercial Service Airport Project of the Year award from the Florida Department of Transportation. We served as the designer of record on the project.
