Supporting the growth of the Chisasibi community
Located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec, along the La Grande River, the Chisasibi community has 5,000 inhabitants. It has grown rapidly in recent years. AtkinsRéalis has contributed to numerous projects with the Cree Nation of Chisasibi, such as the development of several new housing developments, as well as projects to build and renovate drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities.
This population growth in Chisasibi also required new community infrastructure to maintain the current and future quality of life across the region. As part of this initiative, the Cree School Board commissioned the construction of a new elementary school for students in this community. AtkinsRéalis has completed civil (parking, landscaping and utility connection), construction (concrete foundation, steel structure), mechanical (fire protection, ventilation, plumbing, control) and electrical (distribution, generator, intrusion protection and fire alarm system, and telecommunications) engineering work for this new school with a surface area of 7,050 m².
Building a new hospital was also necessary to ensure the well-being of all members of the community, as well as for the benefit of the eight other Cree communities across the Eeyou Istchee James Bay territory. The new Eeyou-Istchee Regional Health Centre in Chisasibi will feature a hospital and a Community Health Centre (Miyupimaatisiiun). AtkinsRéalis is part of a consortium that is designing mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering infrastructure.

Uquutaq High School in Inukjuak
AtkinsRéalis provided all mechanical, electrical, civil, fire safety and structural engineering services for the construction of a new 4,280 m² high school to accommodate over 200 students in Inukjuak, Nunavik. The school includes 17 classrooms, 15 specialized rooms, a gymnasium, a library, a laboratory, administrative offices and an atrium. The new school provides the community’s youths with a modern and adapted space for current and future generations.
