In this episode of our video podcast, we’re joined by four members of our Nuclear team: Stephanie Boffey-Rawlings, Doovaraha Maheswarasarma, Chris Conboy, and Christy Theobald.

They each bring a unique perspective shaped by their individual journeys into the sector—from early-careers to leadership roles.

Together, they explore what culture means within the Nuclear sector, sharing honest reflections on what drew them to the industry, what keeps them motivated, and how the workplace culture has evolved around them. Their conversation shines a light on the importance of inclusive leadership, psychological safety, and creating space for every voice to be heard.

The group also highlights some of the standout initiatives that are shaping our culture today. From Men Leading Differently, where the focus is on how to create, lead, and foster a more inclusive culture, to #HackaFuture, an industry-first recruitment initiative that fuses a hackathon format with a values-led hiring campaign, and the Behaviour, Culture, Facilitator (BCF) community, who support individuals and teams, while shaping and evolving our culture - these efforts are helping to build a workplace where our people and our industries thrive.

Looking ahead, the discussion turns to the future. As the sector continues to grow rapidly, the team reflects on how we can evolve our culture to match that pace—attracting diverse talent, nurturing inclusive environments, and showing that nuclear is not just about technology, but about people, purpose, and possibility.

Culture within Nuclear: A people-first approach

At the heart of AtkinsRéalis’ success in the nuclear sector is a simple but powerful truth: our people make the difference. As the global nuclear industry enters a period of significant expansion, our commitment to building an inclusive, empowering, and forward-thinking culture is more vital than ever.

Across the Nuclear sector, we’re not just growing our business—we’re cultivating a workplace where our people feel respected, valued, and inspired to thrive. This cultural transformation is being led by our people (we all lead our culture!), through a shared commitment to our 4Cs of Culture: Curiosity, Care, Courage, and Community.

Often described as the cultural compass of the Nuclear sector, the 4Cs are not a replacement for our company’s five core values — Safety, Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, and Excellence — but rather a way to bring these values to life in daily behaviours and interactions alongside our more comprehensive living our values framework. They’re embedded in how we lead, collaborate, and grow. Supported by psychological safety and positive psychology, including appreciative inquiry and strengths-based approaches, our culture encourages openness, innovation, and genuine connection.

As we continue to evolve, we’re focused on creating a space where everyone—from new graduates to experienced professionals—can bring their whole selves to work, contribute meaningfully, and feel part of a vibrant, purpose-driven community.
