AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering and project management company, has been appointed by Glasgow City Region (GCR) to lead on developing the masterplan for the Clyde Mission Corridor.
The masterplan is a long-term blueprint which will shape future regeneration and investment along the River Clyde and will set out a prioritised programme of transformational projects, including a clear route map and a robust business case.
AtkinsRéalis will be supported by Kevin Murray Associates and Austin-Smith:Lord as co-lead strategic masterplanners, with additional expertise from Ryden, Nick Skelton Economics, Stephen Willacy and Vincent Goodstadt, to develop the Strategic Masterplan collaboration with partners. This will include engaging with communities, partners and stakeholders – to ensure the plan reflects shared priorities for the river corridor.
AtkinsRéalis will provide overall project leadership and client direction, with project and programme management services, strategic masterplanning and technical lead on a range of areas including business case development, climate resilience and adaptation, social value and community benefits.
Kirsty Whitfield, regional managing director for AtkinsRéalis in Scotland, said: “This is a truly collaborative effort to shape a transformational masterplan for the River Clyde corridor which will unlock regeneration opportunities, drive sustainable investment, and create lasting benefits for communities and businesses across the region.
“We are looking forward to working closely with partners and stakeholders to deliver a shared vision of a place-based development to creating thriving communities for the future.”
Kasia Smith, Strategic Spatial Delivery Programme Manager for Glasgow City Region said: “We are pleased to announce the appointment of AtkinsRéalis to develop the Strategic Masterplan for the Clyde Mission Corridor. This appointment represents a significant step forward for the Region’s Clyde Mission programme.”
Part of Glasgow City Region Place, Clyde Mission is a national development priority being led by Glasgow City Region and Argyll and Bute Council. Described as the greatest development opportunity in western Europe, the Clyde Mission programme involves the development of a Strategic Masterplan for the River Clyde Corridor, as well as the development of a £25 million Heat Decarbonisation Fund offering grants to support heat decarbonisation projects.
The announcement comes after AtkinsRéalis unveiled its new designs last month for Buchannan Bus Station in Glasgow, the largest in Scotland, which is set to become a vibrant new gateway to the city.
