AtkinsRéalis continues to deliver housing solutions in Surrey with opening of new scheme

Thursday 20 March 2025

AtkinsRéalis, a global engineering services company, has designed a new £5.7million short breaks service for its client Surrey County Council, providing much-needed respite for families caring for adults with additional needs.

Emily Lodge is one of a number of developments that AtkinsRéalis is committed to delivering for Surrey County Council as part of its adult social care framework, which will provide several hundred new housing units across the county.

In addition to its scheme with Surrey County Council, work has also recently started on several sites around Epsom - a long-time home for AtkinsRéalis - on new affordable housing for Raven Housing Trust developed by sustainable housing provider EDAROTH, a wholly owned subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis.

The delivery of new and affordable housing is a priority for AtkinsRéalis and its clients as it looks to meet the challenge of the UK’s housing crisis, and support the government’s aims to provide 1.5 million homes over the next five years. The development of new homes not only meets an acute need for housing but also helps to drive regional economic growth and create thriving connected communities.

Emily Lodge, in Woking, was designed by AtkinsRéalis for Surrey County Council and will enable family carers to rest and recharge while their loved ones benefit from meaningful experiences at a purpose-built facility. The Respite Centre is one facility in a wider capital programme that includes essential facilities providing specialist educational needs provision.

The new site in Goldsworth Park is due to open later in the spring and is part of the council’s drive to modernise its short breaks service for people with learning disabilities and autistic people, supporting them as well as their carers.

Zoe Metcalfe, local and central government client director at AtkinsRéalis, said: “It has been a real privilege to work with the passionate team at Surrey County Council to help realise their vision for this centre, which will deliver positive real-world impact to families.

“I was very pleased to visit the site recently with the operations team who are busy getting the facility ready to go live, and hearing the real human stories from people who will benefit from this environment.

“It’s also a good working demonstration of the power of collaboration, working together with Surrey County Council, ourselves and the Contractor Neilcott Construction.”
